Monza was previously held on a banked circuit, which spectators can still access after the racing is over. In this older configuration, F1 cars were reaching average speeds in excess of 135mph, faster than the speeds seen at the Indianapolis oval. Despite configuration changes to bring speeds down, 2020 saw the fastest ever qualifying lap of 164.27mph, set by Lewis Hamilton. Lewis also shares the record for most wins with Michael Schumacher, both with 5 wins each. Ferrari is the most successful constructor at the Italian Grand prix, with a total of 20 wins.
